Torana

Torana

This refers to the three-bay gilded tympanum तोरण above the east main entrance to the Janabaha Dyo temple. The intricate network of branches and leaves above the tympanum, also gilded, are not to be found anywhere else.

It is an art which was utilized by the priesthood to catch the eye by illustrating a legend or emphasizing a story of the deity. This has inspired the devotees and generations regarding art & storytelling. It has been both worshiped & admired by various people who visit the temple.

The carvings on the mantelpiece above the door, or tympanum (toran), serves as an indicator of which deity is inside the building. An image of Amoghapasa Lokeshwora is in the center of this intricate toran.
