Inside Kanak Chaitya Mahavihar, the tiered temple is a pagoda-style structure with carved timber, metal ornamentation, and traditional Newari architectural motifs. The temple is considered one of the most ornately decorated temples in Kathmandu valley. Deities have been housed in tiered temples (or Kutagar) since the time of the Buddha.
